Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary :
Smallest of the Goan wildlife Sanctuaries, spreading 8 sq km. Its 52 km from Panaji and 38 Km from margao, Bondla is up in the lush foothills of the Western Ghats.
This ideal Jungle is major attraction for nature lovers as well as children's.
The sanctuary has a mini zoo, Deer, Safari park, gardens, botanical gardens and eco-tourism cottages. Elephant rides are also available which are quite popular.
Bhagwan Mahaveer wildlife Sanctuary :
The sanctuary set in the foot hills of picturesque Western Ghats is located along the northeast border of Goa at Molem village.
It is the largest sanctuary in the state and is spread across 240 sq.km. of evergreen forest dotted with clearing of grasslands and occasional tribal village.
Animals like The Indian Bison, sambar, spotted deer, slender loris, jungle cats, leopards, monkeys, Malayan giant squirrels, wild dogs, pythons and cobras and Birds such as drongos, minivets, cuckoos, woodpeckers and barbets are inhabited here.
Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary :
This Sanctuary was established in 1969 and is the second largest sanctuary of Goa.
It covers an area of 105 sq. km., which is the most densely forested part of the state.
The Talpona river flows through the park. There are several small settlements of Velip and Kunbis
tribes inside the park, observing the traditional rural life style is quite an experience.
The sanctuary inhabits wild boar, deer, gaur and monkeys, panther, sloth bear, hyena etc., There are also several species of birds, which includes, woodpecker, Malabar crested lark and white-eyed-eagle.
There is also a viewing platform, setup on a tall tree at Bhutpal 9km from the entrance,
animals may also be seen around water holes at Tulsimol and Dhantali.
Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary :
Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary covers an area of 1.78 sq. km. is the smallest sanctuary in Goa and is located on the island of Chorao (A lovely island with small villages of Portuguese-style villas and white-washed churches ).
It is covered by lush mangrove vegetation. Crisscrossed by a network of tributaries and inland streams.
Named after Dr. Salim Ali, India's most celebrated Ornithologist. Best time to visit the sanctuary is during early hours of morning (around 7 am) or in the evening (around 5pm) to view the chirping bird life at its best.
Commonly sighted birds are kingfishers, eagles, kites, cormorants, egrets, parrots, herons etc. during the winter season birds like coots and pintails can also be sighted, Also many animals like otters, crocodiles, jackals etc. can be seen.
